Minding the Coach

By February 28, 2023Blog, Encouragement
Reading Time: < 1 minute

Our God is often like a coach
To us unruly sinners
To change us from self-centered oafs
Into Olympic winners.

But we, however, whine and carp
At His intense persistence.
Instead of giving all our hearts
Our minds incant resistance.

When lungs are failing aching thighs
And pleadings go unheeded,
We think He doesn’t realize
How badly rest is needed.

But most of all, I want that ball!
“Coach, let me in there playing.
I know I’ll make a touchdown run.”
But then I hear Him saying:

“Stay on that bench and watch and learn,
And don’t be so darned cocky.
I know you’re good at football son,
But now we’re playing hockey!”
