On June 24, 2022, Roe v. Wade was overturned! Thousands of Christians rejoiced at the answer to their prayers. Roe v. Wade, a controversial ruling made by the Supreme Court in 1973, upheld abortion as a fundamental right. At that time, the court ruled in favor of Jane Roe — a legal pseudonym for Norma McCorvey. The Roe v. Wade ruling removed and restricted the state’s ability to legislate abortion.
Roe, however, was flawed to the core. The decision was based on political leaning, rather than on the true facts of the US Constitution. Even Ruth Bader Ginsburg commented that the ruling on Roe was weak.
Before President Trump was elected, he made a promise to the American people. He promised to overturn Roe v. Wade. 17 months after he left office, Roe v. Wade was overturned in large part to the 3 justices he appointed.
So what are the implications now that Roe is overturned? The myth is that abortion is being outlawed. This is simply not the case. It is a lie by pro-choice advocates to induce fear. The truth is that states now have the authority to legislate abortion. Some states could ban abortion, while others could completely legalize it. The power is now in the hands of the states
So how do we move forward? Now that the states have the freedom to legislate abortion, we have even more opportunities to influence the laws in our land. Many states are in fierce battles to enact or enforce pro-life laws. Many pro-choice judges are unjustly striking down pro-life laws in the states. We need to make our voice heard, and vote for pro-life governors, mayors, lawmakers, judges, and other officials who will fight for the sanctity of life.
The overturn of Roe v. Wade is an incredible victory and an answer to prayers. However, we must understand that abortion is still taking place, and we must continue to do our part. We have to take hold of this incredible opportunity God had given us. To learn more, and find out how you can get involved, visit our Pro-life Dashboard.
